Houston Astros at New York Mets Analysis
Last night, the Astros and Mets squared off for the first game of a two-game set in New York. The Astros rocked the Mets all night long and won 9-1. The Astros lead the season series against the Mets 3-0 and they are going for the sweep this afternoon.
Justin Verlander will be on the mound for Houston and Taijuan Walker will make the start for the Mets. The Astros are -133 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Houston Astros Betting Preview
The Astros got to the Mets early and often last night. Houston put up a four-spot in the first inning and a four-spot in the fight inning and never looked back.
The Astros are 7-3 in their last 10 games and they have outscored opponents by 21 runs over this stretch. Houston is 46-27 this year, 28-16 on the road, and 27-33 on the run line as a favorite.
Justin Verlander will make the start for the Astros this afternoon against the Mets at Citi Field. Verlander is 9-3 with a 2.22 ERA, a .87 WHIP, and a 3.53 FIP.
Verlander has been incredible this season, but he has his worst start of the year two starts ago against the White Sox at home. He followed that up with a 7 inning outing against the Yankees where he only allowed one run on four hits.
Verlander has a 2.04 ERA on the road, a .77 WHIP, and a 3.95 FIP. Houston is 10-4 in games he has started this season and they have covered the run line in 7 of those games.
New York Mets Betting Preview
The Mets have been great all season, but they cannot seem to beat the Astros. Houston has won all three games of the season series and the Mets have not even come close.
New York is 5-5 in their last 10 games with a 4.34 team ERA. The Mets are 47-28 and have just a four-game lead over the Braves in the NL East. New York is 24-11 at home this season and they are 12-10 covering the run line as an underdog.
Taijuan Walker will make the start for the Mets tonight at home. Walker is 6-2 this season with a 3.03 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 3.11 FIP. In his last three starts, Walker has allowed five runs on 16 hits over 18.2 innings of work.
Walker has been better at home this season and he has a 1.15 WHIP, 2.86 FIP, and a 2.49 ERA. The Mets are 2-2 in Walker’s home starts this season.
Houston Astros at New York Mets Prediction
Today should be a fantastic matchup, but I am looking at Houston to win again. The Astros own the Mets historically, and now the Mets have to face their best pitcher.
Walker should keep the Astros in check, but I do not think the Mets bullpen will hold down Houston after. Take Verlander and the Astros to get the win today.
Prediction: Houston Astros Moneyline -133
