Marlins vs Nationals Analysis
After an 8-2 Miami win last night, the Marlins and the Nationals are set to square off in the second game of a three-game series. On the season, Miami is 4-0 vs the Nationals.
Joan Adon will make the start for Washington and Cody Poteet will make the start for Miami. The Marlins are -170 home favorites, the run line is set at 1.5, and the total is 8.5 runs.
Marlins Preview
After a hot start to the 2022 season, Miami has cooled down significantly in May. The Marlins are currently 16-19 and they sit in third place in the NL East.
Miami is carried by its young, electric pitching staff. The Marlins’ offense has been middle of the pack so far this season.
Cody Poteet will make the start for Miami on Tuesday night. Poteet has appeared in eight games so far this season as a reliever but has not made a start this year.
In his eight appearances, Poteet has gone 16.1 innings allowing just one run on nine hits and seven walks. He has not made an appearance against Washington yet this season.
Nationals Preview
The Nationals are a rebuilding team this year, and their early record, and play, backs it up. Washington is 12-25 on the season but is 7-10 on the road. The Nationals are in fifth place in the NL East, and it seems like they will stay there the entire season.
23-year-old Joan Adon will make the start for Washington tonight against Miami. This will be Adon’s eighth start this season and he has not faced the Marlins yet.
Washington has lost six of the seven games Adon has started this year. Adon has allowed three or more runs in every start this season besides one.
Marlins vs Nationals Prediction
Miami is -170 in this matchup and deservingly so. The Nationals are a bad team and Miami beats up on them. Joan Adon has gotten hit all but one time he’s pitched this season and it is expected that he gets hit hard again.
Cody Poteet, the Marlins starter, will probably not go deep into this game since he is a reliever. I certainly expect runs in this game, but these two teams have not been scoring much lately. My pick for this game is Miami -.5 -112 for the first five innings of this game.
Prediction: Miami Marlins -0.5 First Five
