Marlins vs Phillies Betting Pick – Game Analysis
On Thursday night, the Phillies and the Marlins face off for the third and final game of a three-game series. This matchup is also the final time these teams will meet this season.
On the year, the Phillies lead the season series 12-6 against Miami, and the Phillies would love to win tonight for their playoff seeding. For this matchup, Philly is a -130 road favorite, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
Phillies Winning When It Counts
In order for the Phillies to make the playoffs, they have to keep winning baseball games. Fortunately for the Phillies and their fans, this team is hot when it matters.
The Phillies are on a five-game winning streak and they are 7-3 in their last 10 games and they have a 4.5-game lead in the NL Wild Card. Philly is 36-31 on the road this season and they are 44-53 covering the spread as a favorite.
Noah Syndergaard will make the start tonight for the Phillies in Miami. Since being traded from the Angels to the Phillies, the Phillies are 6-2 in Syndergaard’s starts. In his last two starts, Syndergaard has allowed six runs on 15 hits in 10.1 innings of work.
Looking at all of Syndergaard’s starts since coming to Philly, it is hard to ignore that he has only pitched against bad lineups. He faced the Nationals twice, the Marlins, the Reds twice, and the Pirates.
These are all poor lineups that are making Syndergaard look better than he is. On the season, he has a 4.09 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a 3.76 FIP.
Marlins Mull Over Final Weeks Of Season
The Marlins are yet to hit 60 wins, and their season is basically over. Miami is just 1-4 in their last five games and it seems like they have thrown in the towel.
This team has scored just two runs in their last two games and they are looking forward to playing golf in Florida this October.
Pablo Lopez will make the start for Miami tonight at home. Lopez came out hot this season, but he has been shaky for the majority of the season. In his last start, Lopez allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of work at home.
On the season, Lopez has been a worse pitcher when taking the hill in Miami. In 73.2 innings at home this season, Lopez has a 5.01 ERA, a .431 slugging percentage against, a 3.71 FIP, and a 1.34 WHIP.
Marlins vs Phillies Betting Pick & Prediction
The Phillies are rolling, and at this price, I must back them again. The Marlins seem to have rolled over and died before our eyes, and the Phillies are hot when it matters most. Lopez is familiar with this lineup, but I expect the Phillies to extend their winning streak.
Prediction: Phillies Moneyline -130
