Mets vs Cardinals Analysis
After winning a three-game series vs the Giants at home in St. Louis, the Cardinals travel to Citi Field to take on the Mets. New York is coming off a 2-1 series loss at home vs the Mariners.
This will be the fourth time the Mets and Cardinals face off this year and the Mets hold the 2-1 advantage. For this matchup, the Mets are -120 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Cardinals Preview
St. Louis has started this season just how they finished off last season. St. Louis is solid at the plate, sound defensively, and their pitching staff has performed above expectations. The Cardinals are 19-15 on the season and are in 2nd place in the NL Central.
Miles Mikolas will make his eighth start of the 2022 season for the Cardinals. Through seven starts, Mikolas has a 1.49 ERA and a .94 WHIP through 42.1 innings pitched.
Mikolas has been one of the pleasant surprises in the MLB this season with his impressive ability to limit runs and base runners. The Cardinals are 5-2 in games started by Mikolas.
Mets Preview
The Mets are still one of the best teams in all of the MLB, but they have certainly cooled down recently. The Mets lost their last series to the Mariners and have won just two of their last five games. New York still holds a 5.5-game lead in the NL East and their overall record this season is 23-13.
Reliever Trevor Williams will make the start for the Mets due to injuries to their rotation. Williams has made one start so far this season and it did not go very well.
Williams was knocked out in the 2nd inning vs the Diamondbacks after allowing four runs. The Mets will need to rely on their bullpen big time to get this win vs the Cardinals.
Mets vs Cardinals Prediction
This line is a little bit confusing to me. The Cardinals are hot and have the better pitcher going, why are they, underdogs? Yes, they are very slight underdogs, but they are dogs nonetheless.
Based on this matchup and the odds, I have identified a best bet for this game that can be found on my handicapper profile on Sportsmemo, and my second best value bet, which is on the over for this matchup.
Prediction: Over 8 Total Runs Scored -110
