Mets vs Nationals Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Mets and the Nationals face off for the second game of a three-game series. The Mets took care of the Nationals yesterday 13-5.
Tonight marks the ninth time these two teams will face off this season and the Mets led the season series 6-2. The Mets are -180 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 9 runs.
Nationals Preview
The Nationals are on pace to lose 100 games this season and it shows early on. Washington is just 18-32 on the season and they sit in fifth place in the NL East. As a team, the Nationals are batting .255 with a .371 slugging percentage and their team ERA is an abysmal 5.12.
Patrick Corbin will make the start for the Nationals tonight. Corbin has has a rough season and is 1-7 with a 6.30 ERA and a 4.52 FIP.
Corbin has faced the Mets twice already this season and has one loss and one no-decision. In his two starts vs the Mets, Corbin has gone 9 innings allowing just two runs in the first game in April and no runs in the game on May 10th. Corbin’s May 10th start vs the Mets was his best of the season.
Mets Preview
On the flip side of the Nationals, the Mets are playing fantastic baseball and are on pace to win 100 games this season. The Mets are 33-17 and are in first place in the NL East.
New York has a 9.5 game lead over the second-place Braves. The Mets’ offense is batting .264 with a .407 slugging percentage and the Mets’ pitching staff has a 3.78 ERA.
Reliever Trevor Williams will make his fourth start of the season for the Mets. Williams has faced the Nationals twice in relief but has not started a game against them.
In his last relief outing vs the Nationals, Williams allowed no runs on just two hits over 3.2 innings pitched. Williams has a 4.37 ERA and a 3.58 FIP so far this season and the Mets are 1-2 in games he starts.
Mets vs Nationals Prediction
The Mets and the Nationals are very familiar with each other and with the two pitchers who are on the hill today. Patrick Corbin has been really bad so far this season, but he has also shown signs of his old self. Trevor Williams has looked solid in relief and does not have much starting experience.
For this game, I like over 9 total runs as I can see both teams scoring throughout this game. For more bets on Tuesday’s packed MLB slate, check out my full Tuesday MLB card on Sportsmemo.
