Mets vs Phillies Analysis
The Phillies travel to Citi Field to take on the Mets in the first game of a three-game series. This is the second series this season between these two NL East Rivals.
The Mets won the first series 2-1. Philly will send Aaron Nola to the hill and the Mets will have Tylor Megill make the start. New York is a -120 home favorite, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7 runs.
New York Mets Preview
The Mets’ last game vs the Cardinals got very chippy. The New York Mets have been hit at the dish more than any other team so far this season and there was visible frustration from their side. Dugouts and bullpens cleared for a semi-serious altercation at Busch Stadium.
One loss to the Cardinals is certainly not the end of the world for a Mets team that is absolutely buzzing right now. What they need is a fifth solid start from Tylor Megill. Through four starts this season, Megill has allowed just six runs on 18 hits through 23 innings of work. He has been very impressive.
Philadelphia Phillies Preview
Philadelphia swept the Rockies in their last series and that must have felt nice for this ballclub. Philly started out slowly this season, but is now on a four-game win streak and is back at the 500 mark. They are still currently in third place in the NL East.
Aaron Nola makes the start for the Phillies and is looking to build off his fantastic last start vs the Brewers. Through four starts this season, Nola has gone 21.1 innings and has allowed nine runs on 14 hits with 25 strikeouts. Nola was shaky in his last outing vs the Mets, but he seems to be settled in and back on track.
Mets vs Phillies Prediction and Best Bet
The last time Aaron Nola faced the Mets, which was on 4/13, Nola went 3.1 innings and allowed three hits, three runs, and a walk.
Though this isn’t a terrible stat line, Nola was chased early and the Mets ultimately won 9-6. However, I think Nola gets some redemption in this matchup, and I like the Phillies +100 moneyline in this game. Philly is hot, and while I do not want to bet against the Mets, this may be the only game all series I do so.
Prediction and Best Bet: Philadelphia Phillies Moneyline (+110)
