Miami Marlins vs Cincinnati Reds Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Reds and Marlins meet for the final game of a three-game series. The Reds won game one 3-1 then they took game two 2-1. Cincinnati also leads the season series between these two teams 4-2.
For the final game between these two teams this season, the Marlins are -210 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7 runs.
Minor Missing Opportunities
The Reds were sellers at the trade deadline, but that has not stopped the players that remain on the roster from playing hard.
The Reds are on a four-game winning streak and they are 7-3 in their last 10 games with a 2.50 team ERA. On the season, the Reds are 42-61, they are 18-29 on the road, and they are 41-40 covering the run line as an underdog.
Mike Minor will take the mound for the Reds tonight in Miami. Minor is 1-7 on the season with a 6.31 ERA, a 1.58 WHIP, and a 6.74 FIP. Minor started this season injured, and he has come back and struggled since June. In his last three starts, Minor has allowed 10 runs on 17 hits in 13.1 innings of work.
In just 15.1 innings on the road, Minor has a 6.46 ERA, a .585 slugging percentage against, a 5.92 FIP, and a 1.83 WHIP. The Reds are 1-2 in his road starts and the team is 1-9 in all 10 of his starts this season. Minor is fortunate to be facing a Marlins offense that is struggling mightily and has a .425 OPS so far in August.
Sandy Striking Out The Opposition
The Marlins showed promise at one point this season, but they are trending in the wrong direction at the wrong time.
Miami has lost nine straight games at home and they are just 3-7 in their last 10 games with a 5.06 team ERA. On the season, the Marlins are 47-57, they are 22-28 at home, and they are 13-32 covering the run line as a favorite.
Sandy Alcantara, the leader to be the NL Cy Young, will take the mound for Miami at home tonight. Alcantara is 9-4 with a 1.99 ERA, a .94 WHIP, and a 2.87 FIP. His last two starts have been shaky and Sandy has allowed two or more runs in each of those starts.
In 81 innings at home this year, Alcantara has a 2.00 ERA, a 2.83 FIP, and a .88 WHIP. The Marlins are 6-4 in Sandy’s home starts this season. The Reds have the second worst offense in the league on the road and it is their first time seeing Alcantara this season.
Miami Marlins vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction
It is impossible to back the Marlins with such high juice considering how bad they have been lately. However, it is also hard to back the Reds on the run line with such a good pitcher on the mound for Miami.
Alcantara’s last two starts have gone over 7 runs, and four out of five of Minor’s last five starts have gone over 7. The over is something to note for this matchup.
Prediction: Over 7 +105 / MIA First Five -130
