Miami Marlins vs Pittsburgh Pirates Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Marlins and Pirates face off for the third game of a four-game series. The Pirates won game one 5-1 and they took home game two last night 3-2.
Pablo Lopez will make the start for Miami tonight at home and JT Brubaker will make the start for Pittsburgh tonight in Miami. For this matchup, the Marlins are -178 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7 runs.
Pirates Look to Brew Up Win With Brubaker
The Pirates are not a good baseball team, but they have been playing a lot better lately and they are moving up the NL Central standings.
The Pirates are 38-50 this season and they are 18-27 on the road and 38-36 covering the run line as an underdog. Pittsburgh is on a four-game winning streak and they are 6-4 in their last 10 games.
JT Brubaker will make the start for the Pirates tonight on the road. Brubaker is 2-8 on the season with a 4.34 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, and a 3.91 FIP. In his last three starts, Brubaker allowed 10 runs on 21 hits over 17 innings of work.
On the road this year, Brubaker has a 4.32 ERA, a .381 slugging percentage against, a 3.39 FIP, and a 1.48 WHIP. However, while his splits are better on the road, the Pirates are 0-3 in his last three road starts and the under hit in two of those three games. The Marlins offense has a .731 OPS at home and a .711 OPS against righties.
Marlins Offense Floundering
The Marlins are headed in the wrong direction after having a chance to make up ground in the NL East standings.
Miami is now 41-45 on the season and they are 20-19 at home and 12-23 covering the run line as a favorite this season. The Marlins are 5-5 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by nine runs.
Pablo Lopez will make the start for the Marlins at home tonight. Lopez is 6-4 on the season with a 2.91 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and a 3.60 FIP.
In his last three starts, Lopez has allowed eight runs on 13 hits over 16.1 innings of work. Lopez has been great this season, but he has also had a few games where the other team was able to put up a bunch of runs on him.
At home this season, Lopez has a 2.41 ERA, a .189 batting average against, a 2.84 FIP, and a .98 WHIP. Miami won both of his last two road starts, but both of those games were in June.
Miami Marlins vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction
We mostly know what to expect from Pablo Lopez this season, but JT Brubaker has been a solid pitcher in his own right.
The Marlins are too cold to bet on, especially as a -170 favorite, but it is hard to see the Pirates jumping all over Lopez. Looking at this matchup, I expect there to be a limited amount of runs, and I would recommend taking the under 7 in this matchup.
Prediction: Under 7 Runs Scored
