Milwaukee Brewers vs Philadelphia Phillies Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Phillies and the Brewers face off for the first game of a three-game series. The Phillies are coming off a sweep of the Angels at home and the Brewers are coming off a series loss to the Padres.
This is the fourth meeting between these teams and the Brewers lead the season series 2-1. The Brewers are -115 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8.5 runs.
Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview
The Phillies lost a bunch of important games over the past two weeks and they fired their manager Joe Girardi. The Phillies are on a four-game winning streak and are 1.5 games back of the Braves for 2nd place in the NL East. The Phillies are 25-29 on the season and they are 12-8 covering the run line as an underdog.
Ranger Suarez will make the start for the Phillies tonight. The Phillies are 6-4 in games Suarez starts and he has a 4.69 ERA, a 1.56 WHIP, and a 4.45 FIP.
The Phillies have lost Suarez’s last three starts and he has allowed 3.3 runs over this stretch. Suarez walks a ton of batters and opponents have a .324 batting average on balls in play against him. The Brewers’ offense has a .640 OPS against lefties this season.
Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview
After winning the first game of their last series against the Padres, the Brewers dropped three straight games at home.
Milwaukee is 4-6 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by eight runs over this stretch. The Brewers are 33-23 on the season and they are 15-9 when playing at home.
Jason Alexnder will make his second start of the season for the Brewers today. Alexander’s first start was last week against the Cubs and he allowed just three runs and seven hits through seven innings.
Alexander started just seven games for the Brewers last season and he had a 2.57 ERA and a 3.57 FIP. The Phillies have the second-best OPS on the road this season with a .759.
Milwaukee Brewers vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
The Brewers are slight favorites in this game even though their starting pitcher has only made one start so far this season. Milwaukee is a much better team at home, but the Phillies produce runs on the road.
I do not anticipate Suarez or Alexander shutting down the opposing lineups, so I lean to take the over for this matchup. On Sportsmemo, I have a three-pack of MLB plays out, so check out my handicapper profile – I am up 12 units over my last 5 plays (80% run).
Prediction: Over 8.5 Runs -115
