Milwaukee Brewers vs St. Louis Cardinals Analysis
The Cardinals were supposed to finish up a series with the Royals yesterday, but due to some bad weather, the game was postponed.
St. Louis will begin a four-game series versus their division rival the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers are coming off a 2-1 series win vs the Orioles in Baltimore. Milwaukee is -140 favorites, the run line is Brewers -1.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Brewers Need to Get Bats Going
Milwaukee dropped the first game of their series with Baltimore but bounced back to win the next two. The Brewers offense is yet to really find its stride, but it’s a good thing their pitching staff is great. However, they only beat the Orioles, so they still have more to prove.
Brandon Woodruff takes the bump for the Brewers and is tasked with shutting down the Cardinal’s strong offense.
St. Louis bats .271 as a team with a .527 slugging percentage. Woodruff got shelled in his first start this season against the Cubs. He let up seven runs on six hits in just 3.2 innings of work.
Wainwright Looks to Turn Back Clock
After lousy weather postponed their game yesterday, the Cardinals come into this series with the Brewers after a rest day. The Cardinals are coming off a win vs the Royals and will start Adam Wainwright.
Adam Wainwright, the long-time Cardinal, will make his second start of the 2022 season. The 40-year-old was impressive in his opening day start – he allowed no runs on just five hits through six innings.
He will face a struggling Brewers lineup that bats just .212 as a team and has only scored 18 runs this season.
Milwaukee Brewers vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
I do not anticipate Woodruff, who finished in 5th place in Cy Young voting last season, to have another horrible outing. He is too good of a pitcher to put up performances as he did in his first start.
Adam Wainwright was great in the Cardinal’s first start, and the 40-year-old shows no signs of slowing down. I like both pitchers to pitch well early, so I recommended under 4.5 runs in the first 5 innings of this game. I also think the Cardinals, at +130, is a value bet.
