Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees Analysis
On Thursday night, the Yankees and Twins face off for the seventh time this season. The Yankees swept a doubleheader against the Twins yesterday and they won game one 5-2.
This is the last time these two teams face this season and the Yankees lead the season series 5-1. For the final game of the season series, the Yankees are -140 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7 runs.
Twins Look to Take Down AL Central Crown
The Twins are hardly over .500, they are 68-67, yet they are just two games behind the Guardians for the AL Central crown. If the Twins do not win the AL Central, it is tough to imagine them making the playoffs since they are 7.5 games back in the Wild Card.
The Twins are 13-17 in their last 30 games, they are 28-38 on the road, and they are 24-27 covering the spread as an underdog.
Sonny Gray will make the start for the Twins tonight at Yankee Stadium. Gray is 7-4 on the season with a 3.10 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and a 3.42 FIP. Gray, a former Yankee, will take on his old team for the first time this season. In his last start, Grat allowed two runs on five hits in just four innings of work.
Gray has only pitched seven innings twice in 21 starts this year. On the road, Gray has a 3.27 ERA, a .225 batting average against, a 1.02 WHIP, and a 3.41 FIP. Gray has been solid all season long for the Twins.
Yankees Re-building
The Yankees have struggled as much as any team in the past few months, but they have been picking up big wins the past two weeks.
The Yankees’ lead in the AL East has shrunk to five games, but they are building solid momentum. New York is 5-5 in their last 10 games, they are 48-20 at home, and they are 52-74 covering the run line as a favorite this season.
Lefty Nestor Cortes will be on the mound tonight for the Yankees at home. Cortes is 9-4 with a 2.68 ERA, a .96 WHIP, and a 3.40 FIP. Cortes has not pitched since Aug. 21st due to a minor injury, but he is back.
On June 8th, Cortes faced the Twins and allowed four runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched. At home this season, Cortes has a 2.20 ERA, a .173 batting average against, a 2.96 FIP, and a .87 WHIP.
Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees Prediction
This is an interesting matchup, and I expect this to be a tight game. However, I expect runs. A total of seven is too low for my liking and I will gladly go over it, even with two hot pitchers on the mound. I am going against mu numbers, but only because I think the market is also incorrect here.
Prediction: Over 7 Runs Scored -100
