Nationals vs Rockies Analysis
After losing a three-game series on the road in Pittsburgh, the Rockies travel to Washington DC to take on the Nationals. Washington is coming off a series loss to the Dodgers, but they snuck out a win in the series finale.
This will be the fourth time these teams have squared off this season and the Rockies are winning the season series 2-1. For this matchup, Washington is a -115 home favorite, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8.5 runs.
Rockies Preview
The Rockies started off the season hot, but have cooled down considerably as the season has progressed. Colorado cannot win on the road and are just 6-12 away from Coors Field. Colorado, at 20-23, sits in last place in the NL West.
German Marquez will make his ninth start of the season tonight for the Nationals. Marquez has had a rough 2022 and has allowed a run in every single start so far this season.
Marquez only leaves 60.2% of batters on base and currently has a 6.12 ERA and a 4.59 FIP, both well below the league average. Marquez pitched against Washington on 5/3 and allowed seven runs on 10 hits through five innings.
Nationals Preview
The Nationals are sitting in last place in the NL East standings and are not very competitive this season. They are just 6-17 when playing at home and are 3-7 in their last 10 games. During this stretch, the Nationals have been outscored by 25 runs.
Patrick Corbin will make the start for Washington tonight at home against the Rockies. This will be his 10th start of the season.
Corbin pitched against the Rockies, in Colorado, on 5/4 and let up five runs on nine hits through eight innings pitched. Corbin has a 6.60 ERA, a 4.70 FIP, and he only leaves 61.2% of batters on base.
Nationals vs Rockies Prediction
The Rockies are bad on the road and the Nationals are bad at home. Both pitchers have also had rough seasons, so where is there value in this game?
I am going with the Rockies on the moneyline as slight road dogs. The Rockies are the better overall team and the Nationals are a mess all over.
Washington plays hard, so I expect this game to be close, but I give the nod to the Rockies tonight. For a 5% MLB play of the month, check out my handicapper profile on Sportsmemo.
Prediction: Rockies ML -105
