New York Mets at New York Yankees Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Mets and the Yankees face off for the second game of a two-game series. The Yankees won last night for 4-2 behind a great performance from their pitching staff.
The New York Mets still lead the subway season series 2-1 so far. For this matchup, the Yankees and Mets are split at -110 favorites, the run line is 1.5 either way, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Winning Walker Starts For Mets
New York struggled to get the bats going last night, but I am not concerned about their outlook for the rest of the season. The Mets have a 3.5 game lead over the Braves in the NL East and they have the second best record in the NL.
New York is 39-26 on the road this season and they are 50-42 on the run line as a favorite this year. The Mets are 3-2 in their last five games and they have a .770 team OPS in August.
Taijuan Walker will make the start for the Mets tonight at Yankee Stadium. Walker is 10-3 on the season with a 3.36 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and a 3.67 FIP. Walked faced the Yankees at home on 7/26 and he allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings of work.
In his last start, Walker exited early with a minor injury in a Mets loss to the Braves. The Mets are 8-4 in games Walker has started on the road this season. When not pitching at Citi Field, Walker has a 3.27 ERA, a 3.41 FIP, a 1.22 WHIP and a 20.2 strikeout percentage.
Montas Must Improve For Yankees
The Yankees looked impressive against Max Scherzer last night, and that may be exactly what this team needs to get back on track.
The Yankees have been one of the worst teams in the MLB since the All-Star break, but they still have a comfortable lead in the AL East. New York is 44-20 at Yankee Stadium this year and they are 7-2 covering the spread as an underdog in 2022.
Frankie Montas will make his fourth start in pinstripes on Tuesday night. Since joining the Yankees, Montas has allowed 14 runs on 18 hits over 14 innings of work. New York is 1-2 in those starts and his last start was at home.
Montas was better at home for the Athletics, but it is a new animal playing infront of a packed house in the Bronx. Montas is 4-10 on the season with a 3.87 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 3.62 FIP. Like I mentioned earlier, it is hard to fully get a feel for Montas since he is new to the Yankees, but the early signs are pointing to him struggling as a Yankee.
New York Mets at New York Yankees Prediction
The Mets could not get their bats going last night, but I believe they wil jump all over Montas. The Mets do a great job manufacturing runs and not striking out and Montas is susceptible to allowing a bunch of hits. Give me the Mets, the better team in NY right now, to take home the win tonight.
Prediction: New York Mets Moneyline +112
