Padres vs Marlins Analysis
After getting swept by the Diamondbacks in a four-game series at home, the Marlins travel to San Diego to take on the Padres. San Diego is coming off a two-game series spilt vs the Indians.
Jesus Luzardo will make the start for the Marlins and Nick Martinez will take the mound for the Padres. The Padres are slight favorites at -110, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7 runs.
Padres Preview
Even without superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., the Padres are a strong team that is playing great baseball. San Diego is currently 16-9 and sit in second place in the NL West. The Padres’ offense has been sluggish at times this season, but they do a good job bringing runners home when they are in scoring position.
Nick Martinez will take the hill for his fifth start of the 2022 season. In his previous starts, Martinez has gone 19.2 innings allowing just nine runs on 21 hits and two walks. Martinez does not strikeout a lot of batters – he only has five Ks on the season.
Marlins Preview
Miami went from being one of the hottest teams in baseball to cooling off quite a bit. The Marlins are on a four-game losing streak and are back to the .500 mark. Due to this four-game losing streak, Miami has dropped down to fourth in the NL East standings.
Jesus Luzardo makes the start for Miami for the fifth time this season. Through for starts, the 24-year-old has thrown 20.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs, 13 hits, and nine walks. Luzardo is great at striking people out and he averages more than one strikeout per inning. This should bode well against a Padres team that strikes out the 11th most in the majors.
Padres vs Marlins Prediction
Miami has been ice cold over their last four games, but I still think they are a good ball club. Miami is susceptible to striking out a lot, but Martinez is not a strikeout pitcher, so I expect the Marlins’ offense to fare well in this matchup.
With that being said, I am going with the Marlins to win this game as a road underdog. Miami has the better pitcher on the mound and their offense is due for a resurgence. If Luzardo can pile up the strikeouts, I think the Marlins will succeed tonight.
Prediction: Miami Marlins Moneyline (+100)
