Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins Analysis
On Thursday night, the Phillies and the Marlins square off for the final game of a three-game series. Philly took game one 3-2 and they won last night 4-3.
The Phillies lead the season series 10-5 over the Marlins and these teams play just four more times this season. For this matchup, the Phillies are -135 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7 runs.
Alcantara Average As of Late
Miami has been struggling beyond belief, and even though they are not yet eliminated from the playoffs, they might as well be. The Marlins are an MLB-worst 7-23 over their last 30 games. On the season, Miami is 55-80, they are 29-42 on the road, and they are 47-39 covering the spread as an underdog.
Sandy Alcantara will take the mound for the Marlins tonight in Philly. Alcantara has been phenomenal all season long, and it is sad to see so many of his great outings be mushed by the struggling Marlins offense. This will be the fifth time Alcantara faces the Phillies this season.
The Marlins are 1-3 in those starts. In his last outing against Philadelphia, Alcantara allowed four runs on eight hits in 7.2 innings of work.
On the road this season, Alcantara has a 3.30 ERA, a .233 batting average against, a 3.42 FIP, and a 1.16 WHIP. These numbers are pretty drastic in comparison to his home splits, where he has been a much better pitcher.
Gibson Gets It Done At Home
The Phillies are currently locked into a playoff spot, but with a month to go in the season, their lead is not safe. The Brewers are four games behind Philly and this team needs all the wins they can get to ensure they will make the postseason.
The Phillies are 17-13 in their last 30 games, they are 75-61 on the season, 41-30 at home, and 40-52 covering the run line as a favorite this season.
Kyle Gibson will make the start for the Phillies tonight at home. Gibson is 9-6 on the season with a 4.48 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and a 4.21 FIP. This will be Gibson’s fifth time pitching against the Marlins this season. In his last start against Miami, Gibson allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
At home this season, Gibson has been a much better pitcher. He has a 3.71 ERA, a .236 batting average against, a 1.13 WHIP, and a 4.23 FIP. The Phillies are 9-6 straight up in Gibson’s home starts this season.
Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins Prediction
The Marlins have been good for two things this season. They are great covering the run line and they are a great bet to go under their team total. For this matchup, with Alcantara on the hill, I am going back to the Marlins on the run line.
Prediction: Miami Marlins +1.5 -190
