Pirates at Braves Analysis
On Thursday night, the Pirates and the Braves will square off for the first game of a four-game series. The Pirates travel to Atlanta after being swept at home in a two-game series against the Tigers.
The Braves have finally found their stride and they are coming off a two-game sweep of the Athletics. For this matchup, the Braves are massive -260 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8.5 runs.
Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview
The Pirates are 24-30 this season and they are one of the lesser teams in the Majors. They sit in 3rd place in the NL Central and they are 11-13 when playing on the road.
As an underdog, the Pirates are 23-20 covering the run line this season. Pittsburgh is 6-4 in their last 10 games and their pitching staff has been impressive with a 3.00 ERA during this stretch.
JT Brubaker will make the start for the Pirates tonight. Brubaker is 0-5 on the season, but the Pirates are 5-6 in games he starts this season.
He has a 4.70 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and a 4.61 FIP. Brubaker has allowed a run in every start so far this season and he has pitched over six innings once. Over his last three starts, Brubaker allowed 8 runs on 19 hits over 16.2 innings.
Atlanta Braves Betting Preview
The Atlanta Braves started the 2022 season with a World Series hangover, but they are finally getting back to form. The Braves are 30-27 and they sit in 2nd place in the NL East.
Atlanta is 16-14 at home this season and they are 17-23 covering the run line as a favorite this year. The Braves are 8-2 in their last 10 games and they have outscored opponents by 30 runs during this stretch.
Max Fried will make the start for Atlanta tonight. Fried is 5-2 on the season and the Braves are 6-4 in games he has started this year.
He has a 2.74 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, and a 2.92 FIP this season. Fried allowed five runs in the opener this year but he has been dominant since. In his last three games, Fried has allowed three runs on 13 hits over 20 innings pitched.
Pirates at Braves Prediction
The Braves are way too heavy of favorites to take on the moneyline, but they are not great at covering the run line. The Pirates are not playing poorly at the moment by any means, but Max Fried is a tough pitcher to crack.
I do not anticipate the Pirates jumping all over Fried, but I also am wary of the Braves lineup after they scored 13 runs last night.
For this matchup, despite the Braves being under .500 on the run line as a favorite this season, I think the value lies in Atlanta -1.5. For the rest of my card, with all 3% plays, check out my profile on Sportsmemo. I am 6-3 in over the last 7 days.
Prediction: Atlanta Braves Runline -1.5
