Reds vs Brewers Analysis
After taking two losses against the Braves this weekend, the Brewers travel to Cincinnati to take on the struggling Reds. Cincinnati has one of the worst records in MLB history through 28 games, but the Reds won two of their last three games and won their last series vs the Pirates.
Now, the Reds host their NL Central Rival Brewers in a best of three series. For the series opener, the Brewers are -162 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
Reds Preview
The Reds came into the weekend with just three wins on the season. Fortunately for them, they were able to pick up two wins this weekend against the Pirates.
The Reds still have the worst record in baseball, but now maybe this team can have some momentum and look more like a professional ball club.
Luis Castillo, the Reds’ ace, will make his first start of the 2022 season. Castillo was dealing with a sore shoulder all Spring and is going to throw in his first live-action tonight. Casillo has a career ERA of 3.72 and is 40-49. The 29-year-old had a 4.5 WAR last season.
Brewers Preview
Milwaukee is coming off back-to-back losses vs the Braves and is looking to avoid building on this losing streak. The Brewers are 19-10 on the season and have a 2.5 lead over the Cardinals for first place. The Brewers just swept the Reds in a three-game series at home last week.
Brandon Woodruff will take the hill for the Brewers in the series opener. Woodruff had a shaky first start this season but has settled in over his last four. Through five starts, Woodruff has gone 24.1 innings allowing 21 hits, 14 runs, and striking out 31. Woodruff allowed three runs but struck out 12 the last time he faces the Reds.
Reds vs Brewers Prediction
The Brewers are -170 favorites which is more than I’d like to pay. I think the Reds are back in the win column, but they are still too volatile for me to place a bet on.
However, this time last week, these two teams faced off in Milwaukee and the Brewers were -270 favorites. With the line at -170, and the Brewers clearly being the better team, I am taking Milwaukee on the run line -1.5 (-110).
Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline +100
