Reds vs Cubs Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Cubs and the Reds face off for the second game of a four-game series. Last night was the first time these two NL Central rivals met this season and the Cubs won 7-4. Both teams are 2-3 in their last five games and are trending in the wrong direction.
This battle between the Cubs and the Reds is the battle of the bottom of the NL Central standings. For this matchup, the Cubs are -110 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Cubs Preview
It has been a struggle for the rebuilding Cubs this season. Chicago is 17-24 on the season and they sit in fourth place in the NL Central. The Cubs are a better road team this season and are 10-9 when playing away from Wrigley. Over their last 10 games, the Cubs are 6-4 and have outscored opponents by 15 runs.
Marcus Stroman will be making the start for Chicago tonight. Stroman had a couple of rough outings to start off his Cubs’ tenure, but he has settled in recently. In his last start vs Arizona, Stroman went five innings allowing two earned runs, five hits, and had six strikeouts. The Cubs are 1-5 in games Stroman has started this season.
Reds Preview
The Cincinnati Reds were on pace to have the worst start to the season of any team in MLB history. Fortunately for the Reds, they have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games and now have 12 wins on the season. They still sit in last place in the NL Central.
Tyler Mahle will make the start for Cincinnati tonight. The righty is 2-4 on the season with a 5.23 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.
Over the course of the season, Mahle has settled in very well. In his last three starts, albeit two were against the Pirates, Mahle has gone 17.1 innings allowing just five runs and eight hits.
Reds vs Cubs Prediction
This game is set at basically even odds, and I am not sure why. I understand that the Cubs are not a great baseball team, but no one has confused the Reds with being a good team either.
For that reason, at just -110, I am on the Cubs moneyline. They have the starting pitcher advantage, are the better team, and are not juiced.
I have also found a 3% play on this matchup that I have given out to my clients in a 3 pack of 3% winners on Sportsmemo.
Prediction: Chicago Cubs Moneyline -110
