San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates Analysis
The Giants and the Pirates kick off a three-game series in Pittsburgh on Friday night. The Giants are coming off a 2-1 series win against the Royals in Kansas City and the Pirates are coming off a 3-1 series loss against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
This is the first time these two teams will square off this season. For this matchup, the Giants are -210 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
San Francisco Giants Betting Preview
The Giants are off to a great start this season, but unfortunately for them, they play in the NL West. San Francisco is 35-27 on the season and they sit in third place in the NL West.
The Giants are 16-13 on the road this year and they are 21-27 covering the run line as a favorite. The Giants are 7-3 in their last 10 games and they’ve outscored opponents by 14 runs.
Carlos Rodon will take the mound for the Giants tonight in Pittsburgh. Rodon is 5-4 on the season with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. Rodon has 83 Ks in 65 innings so far this season.
In his last three starts, Rodon has gone 15 innings allowing three runs on 12 hits with 19 strikeouts. The Pirates have a .662 OPS at home, a .660 OPS at night, and a .659 OPS against left-handed pitching this season.
Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview
Pittsburgh has been really struggling over the last two weeks. The Pirates are 1-9 with a .190 team batting average and a 5.31 team ERA over that stretch. Pittsburgh is 25-37 this season and they are 13-17 when playing at home.
The Pirates are in third place in the NL Central and they are 7.5 games behind the Brewers for second place. As an underdog this season, the Pirates are 24-27 covering the run line.
Zach Thompson will make the start for Pittsburgh tonight at home against the Giants. Thompson is 3-4 on the season with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
The Pirates have won three of the last five games he has started. In his last three starts, Thompson has allowed four runs on 11 hits over 15.2 innings pitched. Thompson does a great job minimizing runs but he does not go deep into ball games at all.
San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction
I am riding with under 7.5 runs for this game. Both offenses are struggling right now and both pitchers are running hot. I do not expect this to be a beatdown despite the -210 odds for the Giants to win.
I think there will be minimal scoring and the game will go under 7.5 runs. For the rest of my Friday card, check out my handicapper profile on Sportsmemo.
Prediction: Under 8
