Toronto Blue Jays at Milwaukee Brewers Analysis
On Friday night, the Blue Jays and the Brewers will face off for their first meeting of the season. These teams only play three times this year and all three games are in Milwaukee.
The Blue Jays are coming off a series loss against the White Sox in Chicago and the Brewers are coming off a series split at home against the Cardinals. For this matchup, the Blue Jays are -160 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 8.5 runs.
Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview
Toronto is 39-30 on the season and they are a half-game above the Red Sox for second place in the AL East. Toronto is 4-6 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by 10 runs during this stretch.
The Blue Jays are 18-16 on the road this year and they are 19-34 covering the run line as a favorite this season.
Alek Manoah will make the start for the Blue Jays tonight against the Brewers on the road. Manoah is 8-2 on the season with a 2.00 ERA, a .94 WHIP, and a 2.91 FIP.
Manoah is better on the road this year and he has a 1.80 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and a 3.36 FIP away from the Rodgers Center. Manoah is at his strongest the first two times through a batting order before he loses steam just like most pitchers.
Manoa’s last start against the Yankees was his worst of the season and he allowed four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work.
Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview
The Brewers are 40-32 on the season and they are tied for first place in the NL Central. Milwaukee is 6-4 in their last 10 games and they have a team ERA of 3.48 during this stretch.
The Brewers are 17-14 on the road this year and they are 8-5 covering the run line as an underdog this season. Brewers pitchers have been much better at home this season.
Adrian Houser will make the start for the Brewers at home. Houser is 4-7 on the season with a 4.24 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, and a 3.97 FIP. Houser is slightly better at home this season and he has a 3.93 FIP, a 1.25 WHIP, and a 2.94 ERA.
Houser normally faces trouble the second time through the order – he has a 7.01 ERA and a 4.61 FIP, but he has a higher strikeout rate.
In his last three starts, Houser has gone 16.2 innings allowing 12 runs on 19 hits with 13 strikeouts. The Blue Jays have a .743 OPS against righties and a .723 OPS on the road.
Toronto Blue Jays at Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
The Blue Jays have their ace on the hill, who despite his great season so far, showed bad body language signs during his last start.
All Brewers pitchers do better at home, so Houser should be set to take on a scary lineup. For this play, I would take a flier on the Blue Jays covering the run line despite the fact they do not hit it at a high clip and the Brewers cover the run line a ton as underdogs.
I have a 5% MLB Play of the Week on Sportsmemo and I am 7-0 on the season for $3,500 in profit on 5% plays – take a look at Sportsmemo.
Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 +120
