Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins Analysis
After beating the Braves in a three-game series in Atlanta, the Marlins travel to Washington to take on the Nationals. Washington is on a five-game losing streak and they just got swept by the Giants at home.
Sandy Alcantara takes the hill for Miami and Josiah Gray takes the bump for the Nationals. The Marlins are -126 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7.5 runs.
Gray Looking at Bright Future
The Nationals are on a five-game losing streak, and it is not hard to tell why this team is struggling. Washington’s batting average is .221 with an OBP of .290 and a slugging percentage of just .320.
On the other hand, Washington’s pitching staff has a 5.41 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. As I said, it is not hard to tell why this team stinks right now.
One of the only positives for the Nationals this season is seeing rookie Josiah Gray bloom in front of everyone’s eyes.
The 24-year-old has yet to have a signature moment in the league, but every inning he pitches it is more convincing that he is here to stay. Over 14.1 innings this season, Gray has allowed five runs on 12 hits and has struck out 18.
Alcantara Showing Ace Status
After losing the first game of their last series vs the Braves, the Marlins won back-to-back games and took the series on the road.
Miami is 7-8 so far this season and has shown signs of being a competent baseball team. Miami has one of the better pitching staff in the league, their biggest issue so far has come at the plate.
Sandy Alcantara, the Marlins ace and budding star, takes the hill for Miami in Washington. Sandy did not need to ease his way into this season, the 26-year-old came out firing and has strung together three impressive starts in a row.
This season, in 19.1 innings, Alcantara has allowed just four runs on 14 hits and 15 Ks. He has been superb.
Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins Prediction and Best Bet
Both teams have their aces on the hill, and as divisional rivals, I expect a good game in Miami. Yes, the Nationals are struggling, but having Gray on the mound gives Washington their best chance to win. Where I see value in this game is in the first 5 innings.
Alcantara has been almost untouchable and the Nationals’ offense has been horrible. Gray has been impressive, but he still lets up a lot of walks and base runners. Due to how these pitchers have been performing, my best bet for this game is Marlins First 5 MoneyLine -114.
