Brooklyn Nets vs Cleveland Cavaliers Preview
Cleveland has to be excited to be back in the playoffs for the first time without LeBron James since 1998.
They have posted a 24-16 record at home this season, a 60% winning percentage, but they have struggled on the road, as I mentioned before, they are one of just three teams in the post season that have a losing record on the road this year.
None-the-less, play-in or not, home or away, this is the first time that Cleveland has tasted the postseason since 2018 with James. While the Cavaliers have made the postseason five times since 2010, and actually have the best winning percentage out of any teams in the Eastern Conference, yet they haven’t won a series without LeBron James since 1993.
While they will be without Collin Sexton & Dean Wade, it does look both Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen will be back for the playoffs after their extended absences dealing with injuries.
Nets Turning it Around at Home
Brooklyn has struggled at home to say the least, they have worst winning percentage in the Eastern Conference when it comes to winning on their home court, but now Kyrie has returned and is able to play at home.
That could be the change that they need, but as it sits currently, their first game will be on the road against Cleveland, if nothing changes in the last week of the season.
Whether this Nets team prefers to play on the road, or if it is the ability to use Kyrie on the road, their road record has been better then their home record, winning just under 58% of their games with a 23-17 record, which includes a 15-6 record as a favorite on the road.
Brooklyn finds themselves in the playoffs for the four consecutive season, and for the 7th time since 2010, in the six prior appearances they only won two series and they have yet to win a series in the 2nd round in the last 12 years.
Brooklyn is 18-28 in the playoffs since 2010 (39.1%), which is better then only Charlotte in terms of winning percentage, but they look to turn that around and potentially make it to the Conference Finals for the first time since 2003.
Brooklyn Nets vs Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction
Brooklyn is hungry and they know this is their time to shine. The regular season was filled with ups and downs for the Nets but they know now is the time to turn it up.
This spread is a little high considering the healthy presence of the Cavaliers down low with Mobley and Allen. Take the Cavaliers to cover but monitor Allen’s finger injury as he was held out of their regular season finale with the Bucks.
Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers +9.5
