Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs Preview
One of the best young teams in the league, Memphis, travels to San Antonio to take on the Spurs in today’s match-up. Coach Popovich looks to become the all-time winningest coach again in the coming days, but in his tenure, his team is just 3-7 off a blowout win by 30+ points against a division rival. On the other side, Ja Morant’s availability was in question for tonight’s game, but it looks as though he will suit up and be on the court for Memphis.
Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis is sitting in the 3rd spot in the Western Conference, behind just Phoenix and Golden State. Yet, Memphis has seemingly been heading in the wrong direction, dropping three of their last five games, following an 11 game win streak, while shooting well below their average, shooting 41.5% or less in the three losses.
Regardless, they are still 32-17 on the year and they are outscoring opponents by an average of just over 3 PPG. Memphis is 15-8 on the road (covering 16 of those games against the spread), on top of a 24-11 record against the Western Conference. They have won 11 of their 14 games when they have the rest advantage against the opposition, and a 21-11 record coming off a win.
Memphis has been on an impressive run this season, including a 14-4 record against teams shooting 46% or better on the season, and the loss in the last game may be a positive thing heading into tonight’s match-up because they are 13-3 off a road loss by 10+ points in the last two years.
San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio and coach Popovich are coming off an impressive win, and we all know how impressive Popovich has been in his career. Dating back to 1996 San Antonio holds a meassive head-to-head advantage over Memphis, posting a 88-36 record, including a 48-12 record on their home court, but they have lost four straight games against the Grizzlies.
San Antonio sits near the bottom of the conference thus far, with a 17-30 record, including winning just 9 out of 24 games at home. They are just 5-12 off a win, 2-5 against the division and an abysmal 2-12 record as a home underdog.
If San Antonio’s recent records doesn’t seal the deal on Memphis taking a win, then the fact that a team off a road win by 10+ points, while having a winning percentage between 25% – 40%, against a team with a winning record is just 4-28 in the last 5 years may be enough to put another one in the loss column for the Spurs.
Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs Prediction
San Antonio looks to continue their run against Memphis, while Memphis looks to get back on the winning streak as they continue to make a push for the top seed in the West. Not only is Memphis looking to climb the ladder in the standings, but Ja Morant is a serious candidate for Kia’s race for the MVP.
Opinion : Memphis (-4), we all know what Memphis can do, we saw it for 11 straight games, they have hit a rough patch, but San Antonio has had a rough season and this is actually one of the smaller lines that Memphis has gone up against.

Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs Notes from GoldSheet
San Antonio avenged a recent loss against the Rockets last night, powering to a 134-104 victory in Houston last night that was easier than the final (led by 31 at the end of three quarters). That was a high point of recent form, if not for the entire season, for the inconsistent Spurs, who had a season-best 57% FG% and scored 82 points in the paint, their most of the year.
San Antonio is only 9-15 straight up at the AT&T Center, just 4-8 against the points at home the last two years, while Memphis is 15-8 straight up on the road and a league-best 16-7 vs. the points as a visitor this term. The Grizzlies have beaten the Spurs in four straight, covering three of those, in addition winning and covering three straight in San Antonio.
First game this season was a 118-105 Grizzly victory at the FedEx Forum on New Year’s Eve, with Griz PG Ja Morant scoring 30 with 8 dimes while Steven Adams and Jaren Jackson Jr. combining for 24 rebounds. Memphis might get a boost from the potential return of G Desmond Bane (18 ppg, 47% FGs TY) as he’s cleared quarantine and has a chance to start this one. Play Memphis.
