Sacramento Kings vs New Orleans Pelicans Preview
Oh how different of a season it would have been for the Pelicans if they had Zion Williamson this season. As it stands the team will more than likely be in the Western Conference play-in games for the playoffs, but with Zion could’ve easily finished in the top 6 in the conference.
The Pelicans still do need a couple wins to guarantee that play-in spot making this a big game for them. The Kings were recently eliminated from the playoffs, but it doesn’t look like they were expecting to make it.
Especially with star players De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. The Kings have won four of their past six games but none of those wins were against anyone that impressive although they were all road wins.
Pelicans Pushing for Playoffs
New Orleans has also won four of their last six and two of those have been clutch wins over the Lakers who are also battling for a play-in spot in the Western Conference.
Those two wins have taken Los Angeles all the way out of the playoff picture giving other play-in teams a sigh of relief at the moment not having to worry about playing LeBron James and Anthony Davis in a playoff atmosphere.
Brandon Ingram and C.J. McCollum have done a fantastic job at anchoring the scoring load for New Orleans.
Jonas Valanciunas and Jaxon Hayes have also been a force down low in an unusual lineup given both are true centers.
This limits other team’s ability to drive and score down low in general. If you want an example, the Clippers shot 44 threes against the Pelicans last Sunday and lucky for them, they made 21 of them.
Miami Heat Deep Dive by the Numbers
In the Kings last game against Golden State, they only managed 90 points, feeling the effects of Fox and Sabonis out of the lineup.
They were down double digits pretty much the whole game as veteran Harrison Barnes did everything he could to keep the Kings in it against his former team. He put up 18 points on 7-17 shooting and added 10 rebounds.
Center Damien Jones has done a great job filling in the shoes of Marvin Bagley III with Bagley III being shipped to the Pistons last month.
Jones has scored 13+ points in each of his last seven games. He had only scored double digits nine total times before that.
He’ll need to step up once again if the Kings want to contain both Valanciunas and Hayes. Defensive specialist Davion Mitchell will also look to keep his strong rookie campaign going as he averaged over 15 points and almost 5 assists per game in March.
Sacramento Kings vs New Orleans Pelicans Prediction
Valanciunas is currently listed as day-to-day so be sure to check his status before tip off.
With this being a must win game for the Pelicans and the Kings in no hurry to bring back their playmakers, I’m going with the Pelicans to cover and the total to hit over 225.5 with McCollum and Ingram both scoring 20+ points.
Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans -8 / Over 225.5
