Ian Cameron Capping
CBB: 10* Northwestern -18 -110 (766)
St. Peter's was one of the cream of the crop squads in the MAAC last season but that was then and this is now. The now is an ugly picture for John Dunne's squad which lost the majority of their scoring and experience from last season.Three key starters are gone that contributed massively to this team's success last year and it showed clearly in their first game this season suffering a dismal 61-40 loss to La Salle who are going through a bit of rebuilding of their own as well. St. Peter's relied on defense to win last season as they were not a team that was gifted offensively and things are much worse for them at the offensive end of the basketball court this season. The Peacocks shot just 30.6% from the floor in the loss to La Salle and it won't get easier against the Northwestern Wildcats here on the road as the strength of the team is their defense and it really comes across as a game where St. Peter's is going to be extremely hard pressed to score points. Northwestern is coming off a sluggish performance in their opener 79-75 in which they led by as many as 17 points and nearly let it get away. The Wildcats have emphasized focus and a full 40 minute effort in this game tonight and this is a good basketball team that returns to the floor this season for Chris Collins. They return four of their five starters from last season including PG Bryant McIntosh and his fellow backcourt mate Scottie Lindsey along with Vic Law in the front court. This is a good team primed to bring their 'A' game tonight and that could spell massive trouble and bad news for the completely overmatched Peacocks. I expect a Northwestern 20+ point victory in this game tonight. Lay the points.
