Ian Cameron Capping
CBB: 10* NC Asheville +16.5 -110 (563)
The USC Trojans are one of the few extremely angry, upset and disappointed NCAA Tournament snubs making them a very dubious betting proposition laying upwards of 16 to 17 points in this home game against the NC Asheville Bulldogs in NIT Tournament action tonight. USC head coach Andy Enfield's quote stands out like a sore thumb in discussing the mindset of him and his team right now: "The feeling is the same regarding the frustration. It doesn't go away in a day. Because we should be in the NCAA Tournament. We deserve to be, and we're one of the best at-large teams out there." That is not what I call a 'bet on' quote. Enfield also said he may sit some of his players for this game tonight in order to avoid jeopardizing their stock as a high end draft prospect and on top of all that, USC is on spring break this week which means student support at the Galen Center in Los Angeles for this game tonight could be paltry and tepid at absolute best. NC Asheville is not a great team nor are they in the best travel situation you can think of having to make the long trek from NC to California but this team has known for a while they'd be going on the NIT road for this first game and have them better prepared for a spot like this than other teams would be. USC is a risk to win this game at all let alone win by margin if their actions speak as loudly as their words do about the resentment regarding playing in the NIT instead of the NCAA Tournament. I expect the massive underdog NC Asheville to do more than enough to hang around within this mountain of a pointspread for the deflated Trojans.
