Take San Diego (#964)
Padres rookie lefty Joey Lucchesi has been impressive in each of his last two starts after getting roughed up a bit in his debut: 15 strikeouts vs. only three walks without giving up a single earned run and only five hits in 11 innings of work. Mananger Andy Green: “He deserves to be here.” San Diego's bullpen has been strong, holding foes to a .182 batting average against; best in baseball. The struggling Giants lineup isn't hitting southpaws (.677 OPS) and they've scored one run or less in fully HALF of their games this year. The scrappy Padres have won four of six, producing four runs or more in five of those contests. That's bad news for Tyler Beede, who needed 87 pitches to labor through four innings of his MLB debut last week. Short chalk worth laying. Take the Padres.
