San Francisco has managed to beat BYU in each of the last three meetings between these WCC squads, despite the fact that they are neither the better team nor the better program.  In each of the last two victories, including a one point San Fran win last month, the Dons have rallied from 14 point deficits to win the game – losses BYU remembers.  Head coach Mark Pope took the loss at San Fran personally: “It starts with me – it’s my problem.  I mean, what a disastrous coaching job….I just let San Francisco play in isolation all night long and that’s really embarrassing.”

BYU’s defense was brilliant in their blowout win over Portland earlier in the week, holding the Pilots to 28% from the field.  Pope, following the game: “We missed some shots we don’t normally miss, but we stayed locked in on the defensive end the entire game and I am so proud of them for that.”  Expect a significant adjustment to their defensive gameplan against the Dons tonight.

BYU leads the country in three point shooting percentage.  They’ve hit at least 50% of their shots in eight straight games, bad news for a mediocre defensive team like the Dons.  San Francisco is coming off their own 28% shooting effort last time out, an ugly loss to Pacific, and they were held to 48 points in their lats ‘step-up-in-class’ game on the road, at St Mary’s.  Expect the Cougars to get their payback here, in blowout fashion!  Take BYU.
