    3%  Take Minnesota – Charlotte OVER (#511-512)

In two games since shaking up the roster at the trade deadline, the T-Wolves have flown Over the total by 25+ points.  Tonight, they’re playing a slower tempo Charlotte team, coming off a game that stayed Under by more than 40 points against the Pistons.

The betting markets are considering pace and averages when approaching this total.  But Charlotte’s averages don’t matter a lick; a team that plays uptempo or slowdown depending on their opponents preferred tempo.  Their last three games against uptempo teams like Minnesota have all flown Over (vs Dallas, Washington and Houston), while their recent games against slower paced teams have stayed Under (Detroit, Orlando, San Antonio, Denver and New York).  I don’t want an average when betting a Hornets total – I want to know what their opponent is going to do!

Minnesota is playing even faster now, and their defensive chemistry/effort/intensity can only be described as ‘lacking’.  D’Angelo Russell made his T-Wolves debut at Toronto on Monday.  Head coach Ryan Saunders: “You get excited, you see the things he can do.”  Of course, the T-wolves also committed a season high in turnovers in Russell’s debut – lots of fast break opportunities on the other end.

Minnesota newcomer Jordan McLaughlin: “When the new guys got into the locker room, they brought a lot of energy. As you could tell, it carried over (into their next game)."  Expect a high octane shootout here, not a low scoring defensive scrum.  Take the OVER.
