Steve Clifford’s team was ready to roll in their final game before the All Star Break last year, beating a bottom feeder (Charlotte) by 38; a game that was over by halftime (71-36 at the break).  I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest to see a similar result tonight.

Orlando went through a brutal scheduling stretch in recent weeks, facing the Thunder, Heat (twice), Bucks, Celtics (twice) and Clippers in their last ten games.  They didn’t win any of those contests.  But the Magic just took a step down in class against Atlanta on Monday and emerged with a win a cover.  Here are some ‘bet-on’ quotes following that game:

Sixth man Terrence Ross: “We've just got to keep building, keep playing and doing the right things…. That (game versus Detroit) would be big. We need that one."

Center Nikola Vucevic: "When we don't move the ball and settle, it hurts us, but (Monday) it was better, we fed off that and we were making shots.  Hopefully we can keep it up going into Wednesday and play the same way."

Trade deadline acquisition James Ennis: "This team is good.  have a bunch of good scorers and a bunch of good defenders, and it's a great group of guys who want to come out and play hard.  I love being part of a team that wants to play hard every time it steps on the floor.  I'm happy to be here, I'm happy we got the win, (Monday) and we've got another game coming up Wednesday against Detroit and we've got to do the same thing -- come out with energy and defend."

We’re not hearing those same type of quotes from the Pistons these days; not coming off home losses to the Knicks and Hornets in their last two games, looking completely lost in the process.  Point guard Reggie Jackson summed it up: “I think we're going to make some mistakes, especially having new guys. Everybody's trying to get acclimated, but we also just have some where we're shooting ourselves in the foot.”  I’m not expecting the Pistons finale before the All Star Break to be any better than their recent contests.  Points worth laying!  Take the Magic.
