    Belarus Vysshaya Liga

(54242721) Belshina Bobruisk at (54242722) Shakhtyor Soligorsk

After a slow start to the season, Shakhtyor has started to turn it on with four wins in their last five games scoring 12 total goals while only conceding two including winning all three home games by 2+ goals and averaging 10 shots on goal in each of those games.  They finished 3rd in the league last year with a 20-5-5 record and strong 59:21 goal differential and sported the best home record in the league at 12-2-1 with a 39:11 differential.

Belshina is a newly promoted side from the Pershaya Liga and have yet to win a game this year with an 0-3-6 record and ugly 7:16 goal differential.  They are tied for the most goals allowed this year and that is with an easy schedule so far.  The top three teams in the league last year were Brest, BATE and Shakhtyor and they have only played Brest so far, losing 0-3 at home.

Besides current form, Shakhtyor has been very dominant offensively all season.  They average the 2nd most shots on goal in the league with 8.0 per game compared to the league average of 5.0 while Belshina is just under at 4.6.  On top of that, they have the third best defense in the league, allowing just 3.9 shots on goal while Belshina is allowing 5.1.  Even with those numbers, Shakhtyor is underperforming as they have the 2nd worst conversion rate in the league, scoring one goal for every 6.5 shots on goal while the league average stands at 4.4.  As you know I like to play against those trends as conversion rates always work towards the league average over the course of the season and that just means Shakhtyor will start to score at a much higher rate, as they have shown the last couple of games.

As an example of what they can do, they just beat a very solid Slavia Mozyr team 2-0 at home last week but absolutely embarrassed them taking 21 total shots with 13 on goal compared to one single shot in the entire game for Slavia Mozyr which did happen to be on goal.  I don't expect to see that lopsided of numbers here, but I think Shakhtyor will dominate the chances in this game and we could possibly see 10+ shots on goal which they have done on numerous occasions this year.
