Zack Wheeler makes the start after his family added a child on Monday. The former Mets pitcher has said that he's better in the heat when he can get a better grip on his pitches. Last year the righty posted a 1.96 ERA in three starts against Miami with 26 strikeouts to just two walks. Among the hitters that have struggled against him are Brian Anderson (3-18), Corey Dickerson (2-8) and Jonathan Villar (2-8). I just don't like this Marlins lineup very much and will look to take advantage of them.
On the other side is Caleb Smith who has held current Phillies hitters to a .171 average. Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, JT Realmuto and Jean Segura are a combined 0-23 against him with 8 strikeouts. Smith has one of the highest spin rates when it comes to a fastball with hitters hitting just .210 against it last year. The problem is that he's prone to giving up dingers with it as 20 of his 33 came from that pitch. Still, I think the Phils will struggle a little bit here as well.
** Action only if Wheeler and Smith are pitching. **
