Max Scherzer had an uneven opening night striking out 11 Yankee batters in just over five innings, but it was a few bad pitches to Aaron Judge that ended up killing him. Scherzer should pitch better against a Toronto lineup that has not faced him often. Only four players have seen him and they have just four hits combined in 37 at-bats.
On the other side it's the much awaited debut of Nate Pearson. He rocketed up three levels last year and in AAA he held righty hitters to a .209 average and lefties to .136. He's got an upper 90s fastball along with some solid offspeed pitches. Pearson struck out 16 of the 41 batters he faced in his first taste of big league camp this spring. The Nats lineup has underperformed tremendously so far although Juan Soto may be in the lineup.
I think these first five innings will be a breeze for both pitchers
** Pearson and Scherzer MUST pitch for action **
