Jeff Scott walked into a tough rebuild at South Florida this past offseason, and the early results haven’t been pretty.  This program declined precipitously throughout the Charlie Strong era – they won 21 games in 2016 and 2017 combined (’17 was Strong’s first year, playing with Willie Taggart recruits); but went 7-6 in 2018 and 4-8 last year.

The early returns on Scott’s squad this year have been downright ugly.  They’ve played 3 games against FBS foes, losing all three by three TD’s or more.  Their defense has been a sieve; the offense held to a TD or less in two of the three losses.  This isn’t new or different – USF managed only 7 points in their loss to Temple last year and have been held to seven points or less in HALF of their last ten games.  Sophomore Jordan McCloud just won the starting QB job, five games into the season, which speaks volumes about the capabilities of this offense.  I don’t trust USF to step up against any quality foe.

Temple had a bizarre start to the campaign filled with cancellations – last week’s two point home loss against Navy was their season opener.  It’s surely worth noting how that game played out – typical Week 1 sloppiness early, before a second half comeback fell just short thanks to a missed two point conversion.  I’m expecting a much cleaner showing this week, and make no mistake about it – Temple’s got some talent, on both sides of the football.  Senior QB Anthony Russo, RB Re’Mahn Davis, WR’s Branden Mack , Jadan Blue an Randle Jones are all legit playmakers at this level, and a secondary that lost a pair of graduates to the NFL draft last spring has reloaded, not in rebuilding mode.  Cheap price to lay with the vastly superior team at home in a prime bounceback spot!  Take Temple
