The Pirates are struggling mightily right now, losing 11 times in their last 15 ballgames.  Their bullpen collapsed AGAIN last night, the eighth time this season that a lead after six innings has evaporated.  We’re talking about a pitching staff that has allowed more than EIGHT runs per game in their last dozen contests – even if Joe Musgrove throws a gem, this worn down bullpen is throwing gas on fires consistently.

And Musgrove hasn’t been throwing many gems lately.  Musgrove threw seven innings of one hit ball against the D-backs on May 14th.  In his other five recent starts, he’s allowed 30 runs; repeatedly struggling with his command.  His quote after getting blasted at home by the Brewers last week isn’t exactly surging with confidence:  "It's really hard to work when you're behind in the count. I don't get the same swings.  That's where it all starts, then the execution with two strikes. I'm getting guys to two strikes, then not making good pitches."

Kevin Gausman, too, is coming off a dismal effort in his last outing, blasted by the red hot Nationals lineup.  But he’d thrown three straight quality starts prior to last time and his quote is certainly ‘bet-on’: “The only positive was maybe I got the bad one out of the way.  I feel like I've been throwing the ball pretty well. So I'll try not to get too discouraged."  The Braves lineup behind him has pounded out 29 runs in their last three ballgames – all wins – primed to make it four in a row tonight!  Take the Braves.
