Madison Bumgarner still attracts plenty of attention in the betting markets, but he’s no longer the same ace pitcher that carried the Giants to three World Series titles earlier this decade.   The results do not lie.  San Francisco is 7-9 in Bumgarner’s 16 previous starts this season, including a 2-4 mark in his last six trips to the hill.  His track record against the Rockies isn’t particularly good and his advanced metrics, too, show real signs of regression.

The Giants lineup behind Bumgarner got shut out last night, ranked #28 out of 30 teams in MLB in runs scored this year; #29 in OPS.   San Fran has been held to three runs or less in six of their last nine games, still ice cold.  Their homefield edge is non-existent, with a worse record at home than on the highway.   And Bruce Bochy’s bullpen is anything BUT fresh tonight, playing for the 12th consecutive day, without any of their starting pitchers recording an out past the sixth inning.

The Rockies have a better road record than the Giants have at home.  They’ve already swept a series at Arizona on their current road trip; 38-24 since their dismal 3-12 start to the season.  Chi Chi Rodriguez is no ace, but he’s more than capable of containing this cold Giants lineup, and the Rockies bullpen behind him has recovered from their disastrous weekend in LA. Live dog here!  Take the Rockies.
