    3%  Take Oakland (#965)

My clients and I cashed a winner with the A’s as underdogs in St Louis yesterday.  There’s ample reason to expect another ‘plus price’ winner tonight with Oakland, now 7-2 in their last nine games and a season best five games over .500.

LA has overworked their bullpen significantly in recent weeks.  None of their last seven starting pitchers has been able to close out the sixth inning.  That’s bad news in a ‘short turnaround third look’ for the hot A’s lineup (50 runs scored during that 7-2 hot streak) against Griffin Canning.  The Angels rookie faced Oakland twice in recent weeks.  The first meeting was a strong outing, but the second look wasn’t pretty.  Canning has shown vulnerability to home runs of late and he’s coming off his highest walk count in a game since April, showing signs of regression after his hot start.

The A’s bullpen has been rock solid on their current road trip, even with closer Blake Treinen on the DL, and that pen is far more rested than the LA pen tonight.   Starter Tanner Anderson has gone into the sixth twice in three tries, and he’s keeping the ball on the ground with a nearly 60% ground ball to fly ball ratio.  It’s surely worth noting that this Angels team currently on a three game winning streak hasn’t won four straight since the beginning of May, losing each of their last four times in this type of spot.  Take the A’s.
