This is a tale of two teams headed in opposite directions right now.  The Padres are surging, pounding out a whopping 16 home runs during their current four game winning streak.  Manager Andy Green: "It's been nice to watch the offense really pick it up. Across the board, we've had better at-bats, deeper at-bats and had bigger hits, putting more runs on the board."

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are slumping, scoring only ten runs total during their current five game skid.  Their best offensive weapon, Marcell Ozuna, just went on the DL.  Embattled St Louis manager Mike Shildt: “Marcell was having a productive season. That's a lot of production to replace."

I’m not expecting the Cardinals to snap out of their offensive funk against Joey Lucchesi this afternoon.  Lucchesi has been nothing short of fantastic at pitcher friendly Petco Park: 6-2 in nine starts here, holding opponents to a .195 batting average against.  Behind him the Padres key bullpen arms are all fresh off yesterday’s blowout.  Meanwhile, the Cardinals are just 2-6 in Mike Mikolas’ last eight trips to the hill and their bullpen behind him is not in great shape today.  Cheap price to lay with the better team in better current form!  Take the Padres.
