5% Big Ticket: Take Boston – Toronto OVER (#963-964)

We’ve got the classic recipe for an Over bet in MLB tonight – two hot lineups, two suspect starters and two struggling, overworked bullpens.

The Red Sox lineup is scorching right now, pounding out 31 runs over their last three games while scoring six runs or more in each of their last six contests and in nine of their last ten overall.  The Blue Jays lineup is every bit as hot: 36 runs scored on the first five games of this homestand; at least six in every contest.  Toronto, like Boston, has produced six runs or more in nine of their last ten overall.

Jacob Waguespack made it through the batting order twice vs. Tampa Bay in his MLB debut back in May.  He’s called up again here for another spot start; but don’t expect him to last deep into the game, which brings the dismal and badly overworked Blue Jays bullpen into play again.  Toronto has gotten a whopping 25 innings out of their bullpen in the last five games alone; most assuredly not fresh here.

The Red Sox bullpen, too, has been badly overworked of late, and they, too, have been struggling to get outs.  That was on display again last night, when three relievers combined to give up four runs in three innings.  Chris Sale isn’t eating up innings this year: six innings or less in six of his last eight trips to the hill.  Toronto has seen Sale twice already this year and they hit him hard both times: 14 hits and nine runs allowed in just nine innings of work.

Even home plate ump Larry Vanover has a slight bias to the Over in recent seasons, particularly in games totaled higher than nine.  Expect fireworks, start to finish; a wager that’s worthy of Big Ticket status.  Big Ticket: Take the OVER.
