3%  Take the Chicago Cubs (#905)

The Cubs aren’t the type of squad that we expect extended losing streaks from.  In early April, they lost six straight.  Since that time, the Cubs longest losing streak has been four games; exactly the length of their current skid.  Yesterday’s blown save loss was frustrating, but Joe Maddon knows what to expect today:

Maddon: “You get back in the huddle. That's all you can do. You don't cry. You don't throw things. You get back in that huddle and you come back tomorrow and try to win that last game of the series. Of course it's a difficult loss but you have to process it and come back out and play again."

Jose Quintana is coming off his first true gem in more than a month; throwing six shutout innings against the Reds.  He’s got an excellent track record against Pittsburgh, holding current Pirates to a .224 batting average and .660 OPS in a solid 98 at bat sample size. In his lone previous start against the Pirates this season, Quintana threw seven innings of four hit, shutout ball.

The Pirates, like the Cubs, have used their bullpen extensively in this series – there’s no fresh bullpen behind Jordan Lyles tonight.  The Pirates have lost each of Lyles last four starts, and he’s coming off a 103 pitch effort in his first game back from the IL.  It’s not like Lyles has a great track record at PNC Park and his splits show clear troubles in daytime starts.  It’s a Cubs spot, plain and simple, worthy of support in this near pick ‘em price range.  Take the Cubs.
