    3%  Take Oakland (#975)

The A’s have been exceptionally good at bouncing back off a road loss on the road; 11-2 in their last 13 tries in this role dating back to early June as part of a 25-14 road record overall.  Coming off a 3-2 loss in San Fran last night, this is a clear bounceback spot for a team that has been very good at bouncing back in hostile environments.

Homer Bailey’s aggregate numbers since arriving in Oakland at the trading deadline aren’t pretty: an 8.17 ERA in five starts with the A’s.  However a closer look tells the real story.  In three starts against lesser lineups, he’s thrown three quality starts.  In two road starts against the fearsome Cubs and Astros he got bombed for 16 earned runs in 6.2 innings of work.  I would put the Giants lineup in the ‘not Houston or Chicago’ category…..

The Giants aren’t hitting again, held to three runs or less in six of their last nine ballgames.  Unlike Home Bailey, Tyler Beede hasn’t even been getting weaker lineups out of late, allowing 32 hits and 18 earned runs in just 19.1 innings over his last four starts, all San Francisco losses.  And the Giants won’t have closer Will Smith available off a 37 pitch outing last night, good news for Oakland backers in a tight game late.  Take the A’s
