| MLB | (963) Detroit Tigers at (964) Cleveland Guardians: Spread | 4:10pm EDT - Jun 13/2026 |
The PLAY: Cleveland Guardians +1.5 (-135) Tarik Skubal (LHP), Joey Cantillo (LHP) Must Start
I'll be at this one, which is expected to be a rare sellout at Progressive Field (just the 4th in 36 games), as Tarik Skubal is set to return to the mound for the Tigers following surgery to remove "loose bodies" from his left elbow. Skubal has not pitched since April 29th, but this is considered a pretty quick return from that kind of surgery. Since he went on the IL, the Tigers have gone in the tank, losing 24 of their last 35 games to fall nine games off the pace in the American League Central.
That 11-24 stretch includes an 0-5 record against the Guardians. Last night, the Tigers dropped the series opener in Cleveland by a score of 3-2. Starter Jack Flaherty left after just three innings due to slipping on the mound and the only two hits that the Tigers' lineup could manage against Tanner Bibee were a pair of solo home runs. The Guards are now 10-1 against the Tigers in the regular season, dating back to last year. But the good news here for the Tigers is that not only is Skubal back, but that he has posted a 1.19 ERA with 63 K's in 53 IP vs. Cleveland the L4 seasons.
The Guardians' starting pitcher for Saturday afternoon will be Joey Cantillo. While he's allowed a total of 15 ER over his last three starts (just 11 IP), Cantillo's ERA in three previous starts vs. the Tigers is 0.77 and that includes 5 2/3 shutout innings against them earlier this season. At the end of the day, this is a tough one to call. There's quite a bit of uncertainly surrounding Skubal in his first start back from injury. The Tigers are only 4-3 with him on the mound this season and three of those seven games were decided by exactly one run. So let's grab the +1.5 with the home team on the run line.
