The PLAY: Seattle Mariners -158 Lucas Giolito (RHP), George Kirby (RHP) Must Start
I know the Padres swept the Mariners down in San Diego last month. But I'm quite surprised that we may see that same result repeated here in Seattle this weekend. As I've been through before, the Padres have been a pretty lucky team this year with 13 come from behind victories. They haven't had to come from behind in this series. But back to back wins - as +114 and +144 ML dogs - was not expected on this end.
Seattle will turn to George Kirby as they look to avoid the sweep. Kirby has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his nine starts this season including each of the last six. I don't see him having much difficulty with a Padres lineup that has the lowest team batting average in all of MLB this season (.223). After Kirby, we get a Mariners' bullpen that has a 3.03 ERA for the season. That's tops in all of MLB.
San Diego is 0-4 the L4 times they've been off consecutive wins. Not sure Sunday starter Lucas Giolito is the guy to stop that trend. He's got a 5.01 xERA and 4.59 xFIP. The Mariners' lineup is still top five in wRC+ (118) at home, despite having done little so far in this series. End of the day, it would just really surprise me if the Padres finished off the sweep on Sunday Night Baseball.
