The PLAY: Washington Nationals 130 Miles Mikolas (RHP), Logan Webb (RHP) Must Start
Situationally, this is a good spot to fade the Giants. They are coming off a win on Sunday Night Baseball - at Wrigley Field in Chicago (I was there!) - in a game that went to extra innings. Now they have to fly back to the West Coast to open a new series against the Washington Nationals on Monday night.
There is no disputing the fact the Nationals are the better offensive team in this matchup. In fact, they are #1 in all of MLB when it comes to runs scored this season (352). Meanwhile, the Giants still sit 23rd in that category (272) even after a few big games at the plate over the past week.
So it will take one heck of a start from Logan Webb for San Fran to have any chance here. The thing is, the team is just 3-7 in Webb starts this season including 1-4 the last five. The only win was 1-0 his last time out. For Washington, Miles Mikolas has been better as of late (three runs or fewer allowed in each of his L4 starts) and he has good career numbers vs. the Giants (5-1 w/ 2.95 ERA).
