Los Angeles Lakers vs Brooklyn Nets Preview
We have seen LeBron James in nine of the last 11 NBA championship games, but he’s missed the title game in two of the last three years. Where we currently stand, there are questions surrounding if LeBron and Los Angeles will even make the playoffs! It looks as though Los Angeles will have Anthony Davis back tonight in the game at Brooklyn, but Los Angeles currently sits in the 8th spot in the Western Conference with a record of 23-24. While Los Angeles has been hit with injuries all season, so has Brooklyn, with KD finding himself on the injury list yet again, but somehow they still hold a 29-17 record, which is tied for the 2nd best record in the East.
Los Angeles Lakers
Los Angeles heads to the Barclays Center to take on Brooklyn, yet regardless of what stadium they visit, Los Angeles has struggled, losing 60% of their games on the road (8-12). They have posted just over 109 PPG on the road, yet the defense is allowing nearly 113 points! Although, in the last five games, Los Angeles has struggled even more on the offensive end, putting up just 105 PPG and allowing 111, we will wait and see if Anthony Davis’s return lights a new spark in the offense.
On the season, Los Angeles is sitting at #7 putting up 111.3 PPG, but they come in ranked at #27 in PPG allowed with 112.7! Although, the bulk of their points have come in the 4th quarter, putting up the 8th most points in the 4th quarter on average, proving that if they can keep the game close, they are capable of putting up the points to close a game out. Los Angeles has shot the ball well, coming in at #8 in FG %, connecting on 46.45% of their shots and while they are the #7 team in both blocks and steals, they find themselves at the opposite end in turnovers, losing the ball almost 15 times per game!
Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn has definitely had the more impressive season so far. On the offensive side of the ball, Brooklyn is #4 in PPG, putting up 112.2 on average, stemming from the #2 FG% in the league with 47.4%. Brooklyn is also the best free throw shooting team in terms of percentage, which definitely helps late in close games, which is a useful tool seeing as Brooklyn is the #2 team in scoring in the 1st quarter, and they are the #6 team in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but in the 4th quarter they fall to 19th.
Brooklyn is just barely over .500 at home, posting a 12-11 record (but they are a measly 5-17 against the spread at home). Their offense has been hot recently, putting up almost 118 PPG in the last five, but they are allowing nearly 115 to the opposition, keeping games close. In their last game, they allowed 136 points to Minnesota in the loss, but they are 18-4 after giving up 110+ points, and 12-1 following a game where they gave up more then 110 points and lost.
This is just Brooklyn’s second game on the season being a home underdog, but they haven’t fared well coming back to the Barclays Center, posting just a 1-6 record on their own court following a road game. When you look back to 1996, when two average defensive teams (allowing 108-114 PPG) after the 42 game mark square off, and the home
team is off a game where they allowed 130 or more points, that team is just 11-30, with the road team winning 73% of the time!
Los Angeles Lakers vs Brooklyn Nets Prediction
This game is set to be an exciting one, Los Angeles has to be excited to get Another Davis back in their line-up and they look to add to their 19-6 record at the Barclays Center, taking on the Nets at home since 1996. Brooklyn is a 2.5 point underdog with a total of 227 with both teams noticeably under the .500 mark against the spread. Can LeBron cover the spread and keep them in the top-8 in the West?
Opinion: Los Angeles Lakers (-2.5), to answer my own question, I think yes. Brooklyn has let games stay close and Los Angeles is one of the best teams in the 4th quarter. Anthony Davis is set to return and this Lakers team is determined to stay in the top-8 and stay above the neighbors next door, in the Clippers.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Brooklyn Nets Notes from GoldSheet
All of Los Angeles is on “AD” watch, as purple and gold fans hope against hope that the return of Anthony Davis (could be any time now, maybe in this game) will cure all the team’s ills. Without doubt the Lakers have slipped defensively since he went on the injured list, and his defensive presence would help get them back on track.
The Lakers had a poor first half defensive effort against Miami (trailed 69-52 at the intermission), but the team showed some gumption with a late rally to throw a scare into the Heat. If AD does return it will provide an emotional lift for LA, and Brooklyn has a 2-14-1 spread mark last 17 games at the Barclays Center, where Net G Kyrie Irving has yet to play a game this season (and he won’t tonight).
