Washington Wizards vs Orlando Magic Preview
The Wizards and the Magic sit in the bottom of the Southeast Division and they’re two of the five Eastern Conference teams with a negative point differential on the season.
Washington is all but eliminated from playoff contention after a promising start to the season which saw them go 10-3 in their first 13 games and 22-40 since then.
Although expectations weren’t high for them entering the season, playoff hopes rose significantly after the first two weeks of the season.
Nothing much was expected out of Orlando entering the season and that continued into the season until now.
Multiple losing streaks has really made this young Magic core stronger heading into next season and with only 20 wins so far, the growing pains are real.
Washed Up Wizards Trying to Finish Strong
We have a new look Wizards compared to the beginning of the season. Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope are the only remaining starters from the first game with Daniel Gafford moving to the bench after trading for Kristaps Porzingis.
Bradley Beal suffered a season ending injury back on January 29 which essentially took all the wind out of the sails for the Wizards on the season.
The other starter from the first regular season game, Spencer Dinwiddie was shipped to Dallas in the Porzingis trade.
Washington is in the second game of a back-to-back in which they lost to Chicago last night 107-94. Rui Hachimura was the team’s leading scorer with 21 and has picked up the pace since January 9 when he made his season debut.
The Wizards have also gotten a nice surprise from rookie Corey Kispert who has averaged over 12 points in his last ten games compared to his season average of 7.9.
Other role players to look forward to having good games tonight are second year player Deni Avdija and journeyman Tomas Satoransky who racked up 10 assists last night.
Magic Making Most of Michigan Men
The Magic will be without a couple key players tonight as Wendell Carter Jr. and Jalen Suggs are both projected to miss this game against Washington.
They’ve lost three straight after a nice defensive showing against Golden State on March 22 in which they won 90-84. Most recently, they just lost at Cleveland where Carter Jr. was their leading scorer so Mo Bamba and Mo Wagner will have much more usage tonight as the team’s only healthy big men with Carter Jr. out.
We could also see more of Wagner’s brother Franz in this one too as he scored 10 points and added 6 assists in the loss against Cleveland.
All in all the Magic had seven players in double figures including another Michigan man Iggy Brazdeikis who scored 13.
The Magic aren’t letting down though as even with 12 more losses than Washington they’re a game better against the spread.
Washington Wizards vs Orlando Magic Prediction
With Washington only favored by three and coming off a game last night, I’m going to go with under the 219.5 total and Magic plus the points.
Both offenses seem depleted with no go-to scorers and especially since Carter Jr. is going to miss this one for the Magic, his points will have to be made up somehow.
The Wizards will be tired as this will be their fourth game in six days which is why I don’t have confidence rolling with them.
Prediction: Under 219.5 / Orlando Magic +3
