Braves vs Red Sox Analysis
After getting swept in a three-game series against the White Sox, the Red Sox travel to Atlanta for a two-game series vs the Braves. Boston is on a five-game losing streak dating back to their last series vs the Angels.
The Braves won their last series vs the Brewers and have won three of their last five games. For the first game of this series, the Braves are -135 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7.5 runs.
Braves Preview
After a shaky start to the season, Atlanta has picked it up over the last two weeks. The Braves are just 14-16 on the season, but they are in second place in the NL East and they are trending upward. The Braves have a .393 slugging percentage which is 8th in the MLB.
Kyle Wright will make the start for Atlanta in the series opener. Wright has been a pleasant surprise for Atlanta this season.
Through five starts, the Braves are 4-1 when he is on the hill, and Wright has a 1.74 ERA and a .97 WHIP. Wright has struck out 37 batters and has only allowed seven walks in 31 innings this season.
Red Sox Preview
After a surprising season last year which saw Boston make it to the ALCS, the Red Sox are having another surprising season.
Unfortunately for Boston fans, it has been a surprising struggle for the Red Sox. Boston is 10-19 on the season and is sitting in last place in the AL East.
Garrett Whitlock is expected to make the start for Boston tonight. Whitlock has appeared in seven games this season but he has only started three.
In 21.2 innings pitched, Whitlock has allowed just three runs on 11 hits and four walks. Whitlock has struck out 29 batters this season.
Braves vs Red Sox Prediction
Both Kyle Wright and Garrett Whitlock are young, stud pitchers that average more than a strikeout per inning. However, what is most impressive for me about these two pitchers is their control and their ability to limit walks.
Both pitchers keep their walk numbers way down, do not allow a ton of base runners, and are very effective because of it. With that being said, I like Under 4 runs (-130) for the first five innings of this game.
Whitlock has never gone more than five innings this season so, in order for this bet to hit, Boston’s bullpen will need to throw one or two scoreless innings.
Prediction: Under 4 Runs F5 (First Five Innings)
