Seton Hall vs TCU Predictions Analysis
The 8 vs 9 in the South Region has Seton Hall playing TCU in which the winner will play Arizona on Sunday.
The Pirates were rolling before playing UConn in the Big East Tournament in which they had won six straight before dropping their Big East Tournament Quarterfinal matchup 62-52.
The Horned Frogs have had it a little tougher having to play Kansas three times in their past five games going 1-2 in those games.
TCU is just 1-3 in their past four games, but that win was against an underrated Texas team. The oddsmakers have the Pirates favored by one in this one so where can we find some betting angles to take here.
Pirates Playing Balanced Basketball
Playing in one of the nations toughest conferences is no easy task and Seton Hall has stepped up to the challenge. They’ve been slightly better on defense than offense ranking 26th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency.
That includes a 17th ranking in effective field goal percentage against, 41st in three point percentage against and 17th in two point percentage against.
Opponents shoot one of the highest free throw percentages against them at over 77% but good news for them, TCU is terrible at the foul line so that shouldn’t be a problem for the Pirates this game.
Where the Pirates will be hurting is from the loss of senior Bryce Aiken who suffered multiple concussions earlier this season and was the team’s second leading scorer at over 14 points per game.
Since he’s been out, the Pirates have posted a 10-5 record. Senior backcourt mate Jared Rhoden has been doing his best to pick up the slack averaging almost 16 points per game and almost seven rebounds per game. The problem is he only shoots it at 39% from the field.
Horned Frogs Hounding on Offensive Glass
When it comes to the Horned Frogs, they play tough and fight for points ranking #1 in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage.
Head Coach Jamie Dixon makes sure all his players are crashing the glass on shots as the team does sport a surprising 79th ranking in adjusted offensive efficiency.
You wouldn’t think that seeing that they rank 229th in effective field goal percentage, 318th in three point field goal percentage, 325th in free throw percentage and 336th in turnover percentage.
They’re top 25 in point production from inside the arch with almost 58% of their total points coming inside the arch. The rebounding comes from all over the roster as the Horned Frogs have six players who average over 3.5 per game.
TCU didn’t have that hard of a non-conference schedule as their best win in that column is against NCAA Tournament snub, Texas A&M. Their worst loss came against Santa Clara.
Seton Hall vs TCU Prediction
Seton Hall played the tougher non-conference schedule and actually accumulated four wins against tournament teams outside the Big East including Michigan, Yale, Texas and Rutgers. They lost to Ohio State by three on a neutral court.
With Seton Hall competing against much tougher competition overall on the season and rolling out a much more balanced offense, I see them taking this game and moving on. As long as they limit TCU on the offensive glass, this shouldn’t be a problem.
