Denver Nuggets vs Minnesota Timberwolves Preview
The Denver Nuggets ride a five game winning streak into Minnesota to take on a Timberwolves team that is trying to keep their playoff hopes alive while going through a number of injuries to the guard position including Patrick Beverly and D’Angelo Russell.
The Timberwolves are coming off a home win against the Jazz and hope to continue that momentum against another one of the Western Conference’s top teams. With MVP hopeful Nikola Jokic considered questionable for tonight’s game, let’s see if the Timberwolves have what it takes to pull off a win.
Inconsistent Defense From Timberwolves
Minnesota will continue to utilize Center Karl Anthony-Towns who averages over 24 points per game and nine rebounds per game. He will see additional usage if Jokic doesn’t play as the team overall ranks 7th in the league in total points per game.
Their defense on the other hand only ranks 21st in the league in points allowed per game at just over 110. The T’Wolves do rank in the top five in both steals and blocks per game though. Where they struggle most is taking care of the ball coming in at third worst in the league with over 14 turnovers per game.
Nuggets Need Assistance From Role Players
Denver’s chances in this game will heavily rely on the status of Jokic come game time who is nursing a sore toe. It might be a good time for him to take a game off as they’re playing four games in six days including a battle with the Jazz tomorrow night.
Journeyman Jeff Green continues to be a breath of fresh air for the Nuggets as he’s capable of putting up 15-20 points if need be in games where injuries are impacting the team. If Jokic sits this one out, don’t be surprised if Green comes out with another one of those performances. Role players that will need to pick up the slack in Jokic’s absence are Aaron Gordon Will Barton and Monte Morris.
Denver Nuggets vs Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction
If Jokic sits this one out I think taking Minnesota at -5 at home is a good call. The Nuggets don’t really have a backup center to fill the void of Jokic besides recent pick up Demarcus Cousins who is also listed as questionable for this contest.
If Jokic ends up playing I’d take the Nuggets at +5 as they continue to make their push to the top of the Western Conference playoff race. If he doesn’t

Denver Nuggets vs Minnesota Timberwolves Notes from GoldSheet
Key factor in this one is the availability of Denver star Nikola Jokic, who is questionable with a sore knee and since this is the front end of a back-to-back with a game in Utah coming up tomorrow even if he can go, he might be held out by Head Coach Quin Snyder.
Still, the Nuggets have won five straight, covering the last 3 of those, and the visitor has covered eight straight in this series, but the early points spread indicates Jokic will sit this one out. Minnesota finally broke through in beat Denver 124-107 on Dec. 15 this season after having lost the previous 12 straight to the Nuggets.
Jokic scored 26.5 ppg, grabbed 14.5 rpg and handed out 9 assists per game in first two meetings with the Timberwolves this season, but Minny is just 3-7 vs. the number last 10 with their defense ranking 24th in that span. Must check status of Timberwolves Minny PG D’Angelo Russell and G Patrick Beverley, who both were upgraded to questionable after missing several recent games. Play the Over.
