Brooklyn Nets vs Detroit Pistons Preview
The Detroit Pistons travel to Brooklyn to take on the Nets in the Barclays Center which will be star guard Kyrie Irving’s second game eligible playing at home.
He played poorly in his first home game of the season against the Hornets as the Nets lost 119-110. He only shot 6-22 including going 1-9 from three point range, generating 16 points in total.
Irving may have been a little nervous given all the expectations mounting as we head towards the playoffs, but those jitters should be all out of his system for this one.
Nets Have Almost Found Their Offensive Rhythm
Kevin Durant was his normal self during their last game against Charlotte putting up 27 points on 9-24 shooting while also adding 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
The Hornets have been known as one of the best offensive teams in the NBA this season so it makes sense they were able to put up 119 on Brooklyn.
As it stands, the Nets would be in the play-in games for the NBA playoffs as they need to reel some wins together to catch Toronto and Chicago who sit in the 5th and 6th spots as of today.
For what it’s worth, Brooklyn is 7-3 in their last ten games as they have seven remaining including this game tonight with Detroit.
If they can go 6-1 in those seven games, they have a small chance to climb to 6th as they stand four games back of that. They really need their bench to step up as we head down the home stretch of the regular season as in total they only accumulated 25 of the team’s 110 points against the Hornets.
Pistons Lose Two Key Players
It’s been announced that forwards Jerami Grant and Hamidou Diallo will be shut down for the regular season which is going to make it that much tougher to cover in games let alone win them.
In their last game against the Knicks, power forward Marvin Bagley was the biggest beneficiary as he went off for 27 points on 11-14 shooting while Rookie of the Year candidate Cade Cunningham chipped in with 18 points and 7 assists.
They have regained role player Frank Jackson after an extended absence who should see more playing time after getting 13 minutes against the Knicks. He made the most of those minutes scoring 7 points on 2-7 shooting.
Brooklyn Nets vs Detroit Pistons Prediction
With the spread favoring Brooklyn by 14 and the total sitting at 234, I see this total going over as the Pistons will be without two of their key defenders as Grant and Diallo will be missed.
The Nets saw an opportunity to climb the standings slip away from them against the Hornets and still want to keep the rest of the Eastern Conference on notice which means putting up a mass amount of points on the Pistons.
I’d lean for them to cover, but the Pistons have been playing tough, leading me to believe a 125-115 type of score is possible here, especially with Kyrie Iriving wanting to put on a show for the home crowd for the first time.
Prediction: Over 234
